Heritage and Heart
OUR PLAN
A Hub for the St. Clair West Community
IMage Front elevation
St. Matthew’s United Church has long been a hub of the St. Clair West community. That means opening our doors to community groups and keeping space affordable. Hard-to-place programs such as the Stop Wychwood Open Door, a food security and social support program, and the First Interfaith Out of the Cold, an overnight shelter, already make their home at St. Matthew’s. Hippo Nursery School, here since 1969, is an important part of this community. There will be 1,320 m of space for meetings, theatre, concerts, music lessons, sports and support groups, continuing our long tradition of being a vital community hub.
After redevelopment, spaces will be more accessible, energy efficient and attractive. Our beautiful heritage church, with its light airy interior will remain.
A Mix of Affordable and Market Housing
Back elevation
Part of the property is being redeveloped for more than 80 housing units, 20% of them affordable. This is the mid-rise housing so lacking in Toronto. The building conforms to the St. Clair West plan with just 10 storeys. It will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units, and a mix of market and affordable units.
